Case Introduction
India, the world's second-most-populous country, has taken over the world's fourth-largest car market, formerly controlled by Germany. The country has long been plagued by air pollution, however.Increasing air pollution and high dependence on oil imports have made electrification a priority for the government which has set a series of targets. For example, in April 2019, a three-year phase II electric bus scheme (FAM II) was announced, which is expected to subsidize over 5,000 electric buses. It was also proposed that, by 2030, only electric cars would be sold.
